i like this quiz a lot!! some of the options on these questions are so wild, lmao; i especially love the "get in a relationship with them for at least 3 months" one for #36 !! i also appreciate the representation with "i would openly share my darker secrets. if they can't handle it, that just saves us time" on #28 and "i would become a full-throated 24/7 champion of my maligned subculture" on #24 because those are both exactly how i operate XD
i know you said you wanted feedback for any questions where we don't feel like there was an answer that encapsulates us, so here are my thoughts:
#15: i would probably not throw their personal business back at them, at least initially, but i would definitely get angry and start yelling, which isn't really represented in the answers imo
#16: mixing "go to a different section of the bookstore" and "leave the bookstore entirely" feels lowkey criminal (/lh) to me 😭 i would absolutely love to be in any section of the bookstore other than self-help and would definitely not leave without browsing elsewhere! this is probably not that important for the results, but as a reader i was like 'noooooooooo' lol
#20: usually when i plan/host a gathering, pretty much all of my friends are there no matter what the purpose is, just because we like to hang out, and most of us are otherwise free on evenings/normal hanging out times. i picked the "special reason" option because that felt the closest, but i definitely don't require a special occasion to host a get-together
PS: here are my results! i don't feel particularly strongly in favor of any of the monotype results, but i vibe with ice and normal in the primary section, as well as all three of the secondary results i got. i also find it really interesting that all of my stats are identical; though, i do tend to be very well-rounded when it comes to personality tests (for example: i score almost perfectly 50/50 for each letter in the myers-briggs test), so i suppose that makes sense! very cool test, thank you for all your hard work!!!!!
I don't always like these sorts of quizzes, but I thought this quiz looked fun. The Fairy - Fairy/Dragon result was the top result, and the Water - Psychic/Water is what I resonate most with from the available options.
Interestingly, my percentages for these types were really low. It looks like I don't correspond that well with any particular type. Somehow it feels like I got Fairy for my secondary type just by being picking responses that were moderately assertive.
I find it bizarre that my Speed (prioritizing efficiency) is lower than my Defense (physical resiliency) or my Attack (which includes a physical competence component).
If I designed my own stat spread based on the listed criteria, it would be the following:
This is a great quiz :D I'm a little salty that my favourite type wasn't in my end result, but it was fun overall :) Might share it with some friends for them to do it too eheh Although for question 29 I'd have answered something along the lines of "To uncover lost items deep within drawers that I haven't used in a while" :P Thats what I did with my old Pokémon card collection xD And also for question 31 I would have answered with "I exercise for fun" cuz I'm the kind of psychopath that enjoys running :3 33 "I'm just a chill guy"..... (this is genuinely the way people describe me 😭)
This is excellent! It must've taken so much work and time to compile everything, but it completely paid off. The results were remarkably accurate and descriptive, and I appreciate how in-depth your methodology was.
A natural evolution of this project is to make a "what pokemon are you?" quiz, that takes all the attributes represented here and finds the closest matching pokemon to your results. I bet that would be a lot of work for you, but if you would be willing to share your dataset I would like to try and make something :) (can't promise it will look nearly as pretty as yours though!)
Regardless, great work! I'm really impressed with it all.
First off, thank you so much! It did indeed take a lot of work, and I'm so happy that you feel it's paid off :)
I think sharing my dataset is a really good idea! When it comes to the final attributes, the type breakdowns, and the parameters for assigning attributes to Pokedex entries, that's totally something I can do, and I would like to do that! It would take some time/effort to clean up all the old versions and unused data, but I could definitely make something legible from all of it.
When it comes to sharing the aggregates of Pokedex entries (the parts that look like the Oddish example in the 'Methodology' section) it's unfortunately WAY trickier, and that is nobody's fault but my own.
(I'm so sorry, I know you didn't ask for this explanation, but I haven't shared it before and I would like to!)
For starters, the Pokedex aggregates are split up by type across multiple documents, because having pictures helped me focus, but having too many pictures in one document made my 2013 laptop cry. That only makes it slightly more annoying than the other doable things that I listed earlier, so it's not a huge problem.
The REAL issue is that I kept redefining the parameters for attributes (to make them as relevant/accurate as possible) which meant I kept having to re-evaluate the entries, and at a certain point, I just stopped updating the entries themselves, and would simply make a note of what had to change (e.g. +3 to Fire-Primary "Powerful Attack" or whatevs).
And I did that a whole bunch of times, so now there's a bunch of scattered documents (mostly digital, mercifully!) with notes about my alterations, and new rules/parameters, and it's all just a real mess.
So the Pokedex entry aggregates/analyses themselves (which would obviously be most important to the project you're describing) are no longer accurate, and they are littered with references to attributes which were either removed due to a lack of relevance, or got folded into other stuff to make them more universal. (R.I.P. "Hierarchical", "Discerning (Food/Objects)", "Clique-ish", "Nocturnal", "Intelligent", "Giving", "Protective", and so many more attributes that sadly weren't common enough to test for on their own).
Long story short: It would take a buttload of editing, but since you've brought it up, I do really like this idea! - it would be good closure for me to just make all my data available/legible for whoever wants it, and I would very much like to do that when I have some free time.
Thank you again for the kind words, the good idea, and the opportunity to complain about my own horrible bookkeeping - I didn't realize how much I was holding onto that :)
Lovely bit of fun! I especially like the detailed methodology and the discussion of people changing as they "evolve"—an often-overlooked aspect of any personality sorting game. Results for posterity:
Weird to get the same primary/secondary type but a different monotype (makes sense with the described methodology of course) but I guess the takeaway here is no matter what, Imma get wrecked by fighting moves :p My traits are ... simply perfect. No notes.
Since we are invited to mention questions where we didn't quite match with any answer, here are mine. Some of them are maybe a little bit close to existing answers? But there's a difference in tone that feels important to me (and of course, I know you're not obligated to add anything!). But in any case:
[Q7] "That I'm truly happy being myself."
[Q12] "Ooh, this factors perfectly into my existing plans to lie around and play video games."
[Q13] "Digital is my preferred medium anyway. Perfectionism demands an undo button."
[Q14] "Thorough. I want to understand the puzzles and make sure everybody gets a go; just getting lucky defeats the point!"
[Q18] "Overexplain and argue relentlessly until we reach a conclusion that satisfies me."
[Q19] "Definitely more stressed, but I have to admit I'll enjoy this excuse to hyperfocus."
[Q20] "I was only going to invite my closest friends anyway—they won't need convincing." (or equally "Even if I wanted to, my home is MUCH too small for a party." :p)
[Q24] "I couldn't care less what the media has to say about things I love. It's probably just clickbait anyway."
[Q29] "My physical/mental comfort and convenience" (And on behalf of my beloved partner: "The needs of my partner or roommate." )
[Q36] "I care so little about my appearance that I probably don't even realise they're talking about me."
[Q49] "I'll try to block out the noise—they probably don't mean for me to hear their personal stuff. But I'll ask later in case they need to talk."
If anything though, I had more problems with questions where more than one answer is equally as correct (for example—on the buffet, I am absolutely as gluttonous as I am picky). Given the methodology, could this maybe work just as well allowing multiple answers to a question?
Um. Apologies for the essay, it got a bit out of hand <XD And great work :}
Hey hey, first off, I'm glad you had fun with this! And I love so much that you read and enjoyed the methodology section, it warms my heart so greatly :)
These are some really good answer suggestions, and written in such a helpful/stylish way, no less! I especially like the ones for Q36 (that is a great new angle!) and Q29 (this is one of those answers that I myself would probably choose). Your suggestions are realistically nuanced (and also quite sweet, imho) and they make a great case for why there should be a mechanic where you can select multiple options for each question.
I did indeed have plans to implement that multiple-answer mechanic, but other life things have taken priority (AKA I sadly need to focus on things that can legally make money) and it's unlikely that I'll have the space to get it done.
But I still really like the idea! So what I'm gonna do instead is make all my data publicly available (which is still gonna take a minute, 'cuz my notes are hilariously messy) and then if someone is out there wants to make something more nuanced (I hope they do!) they can use that data however they want.
Anyway, thank you again for the amazing comment and the kind words - clearly I'm a fan of long-ish responses myself. I hope you have a lovely day :)
Are you supposed to be able to get two of the same type for your dual-type? My friend got fairy primary and fairy secondary for their #1 result on the dual-types making them a fairy/fairy type with their mono type as fire.
I love this quiz, I always keep on coming back to it every so often to see what the new options are and if there are any new questions / answers, as well to see how much I've changed! I don't like most quizzes since I find them to be too short to mean anything, but this quiz is just right - not too short to be inconclusive, and not too long to get boring. Really excited to see what else you add in the future! Thank you for making this!
I believe the quiz just called me fruity as all hell... 0.0 not that its wrong, just a bit of a surprise! XD
Fun quiz, I really enjoyed it. Really liked having the alternate results at the end, too (Water mono, Ice and Water duo), cuz it was fun to see how things might lean a lil those ways. Now, to scour the pokedex for a team that matches my results :3
This is indeed an interesting result, perhaps powerful even. And I made sure to pick the typings on the board that I am comfortable with.
(Image of my results is hidden below.)
A balanced stat with a lower Speed and slightly higher Attack stat sounds accurate. What is made up for is the fact that I have Slush Rush...while being an Ice type.
Lightning Rod is funny because I main a Swampert, and that I could also be a lightning type in a sense.
And I actually have a character that better fits the "Ice-Normal" typing, but I guess I am one too, which I am amused of. I always believed that I was more like an "Dragon-Electric" type, but going by Bonsly's definitions, that might have been a loose presentation.
For question 16, eating breakfast slowly while watching videos was the closest answer I could make. But what I really do is spend all morning mentally preparing for the day before doing all of my daily morning stuff within the last 2 hours
For question 36 the only thing I'd reasonably do is stare them down with a weirded out look because it's really strange for someone I don't know to suddenly do that unprovoked
It's definitely overly weighted towards fairy. Primary 2 [36.24] and secondary 1 [64%]being psychic, yet the second monotype is fairy in spite of only having primary 3 be fairy [35.07]
So the way this happens is that the monotype, primary, and secondary results are all calculated separately - in analyzing Pokedex entries, I distinguished between the traits of a monotype vs. either half of a dual-type, because there seemed to be some significance in that distinction (to acknowledge whatever logic causes them to make 93% of Flying-types Flying-secondaries, for instance). There's usually a lot of overlap in traits between a type's monotype/primary/secondary varieties, but certain types (like Fairy) can be a little more spread out. I hope that clears things up!
Not sure if I'm really liking the results this time. I first took this test about a month ago and the typing I got was Ground (Ground/Water), and I decided to take the test again after about 3 updates. Now I'm getting pure Ice, or Fire/Bug for dual typing. I feel like I agreed with the description of Ground more than Ice, not that I really disagree with Ice though. Now it could be a case of "this is what I wish to be vs what I actually am", but I noticed my friends were all getting Ice type. Maybe we're all just that similar?
Anyway I'll talk about some questions
Question 22: I would never go to such an event. Why is there no "I would never go to such an overwhelming and loud event" option? I love music too, but my love of music does not require me going to music festivals or concerts. I would much rather stay away cuz I don't wanna blow my ears out.
Question 23: This question just feels strange in general. Least likely to break you? In what way? Physically? Mentally?
Question 24: I feel like there should be an answer that represents not really sharing your interests like that in the first place. Like this question seems to assume that your subculture is something that people know you're into, which may not even be the case at all.
Question 42: This one is kind of complicated because I wouldn't feel just one way. I'd feel annoyed but also thankful.
I'm genuinely sorry to hear you don't like your new results as much, that's a real bummer. As you say, it could indeed be that you and your friends are all a little similar, and it could be that you're seeing a "what you want vs. what you are" situation, but also -- and it's not fun saying this -- it could just be that the test needs to be more thoroughly re-balanced after the huge influx of new answers in the latest update.
There's another pretty big answer update in the works (including a few from this comment - stay tuned!) so I'll do a more rigorous balance check after I put those in.
I do hope that somewhere in your top 3 results, you still got Ground, since that feels right to you.
Anyway, onto your suggestions!
Q22: Funnily enough, I had thought that I had covered this option, but I'm now realizing that the answer I was thinking of specifically says, "that amount of people stresses me out" as opposed to the noise level. I can definitely add a new answer that reflects that distinction!
Q23: You're not wrong... this is a strange question, and I've re-written it a bunch of times to make it more workable for folks... I can't specifically comment on it right now, but I'll find some way to make it clearer, or to write some totally new question that still gets the information that I need from it.
Q24: This is a reasonable response, and I'll do my best to make room for it! (There's another not-yet-added suggestion that I'm also going to try to get in there, but I think I can fit both.)
Q42: That is indeed a little complicated. It's kind of hard to combine things there, because I'm now realizing that all of the other answers could be combined with saying "thank you"... it might be easier to simply take out the "saying thank you" part, and stick to the feelings someone might have, regardless of what actions they take. (Or it might be due for a total re-write as well....)
Anywho, thank you for the suggestions! I hope your results after the next update feel a little more accurate :)
Answer choice: "Intelligence. I know AI exists but it's still good to be smart."
What does AI have to do with helping you find a job? You can't have it answer the interview questions for you. Moreover, "it's still good to be smart" is a bizzare line, as if that's even in question.
I don't see why the answer should even mention AI. Being genuinely intelligent and able to prove that in an interview is why someone would choose that answer.
So that answer was specifically requested, and the requester made a note of how they feel like intelligence (as in math smarts) are increasingly devalued. I can see how that's just making things more confusing, so I'll change it, thank you for the suggestion!
Agree with this. Question 42's answers are weirdly unempathetic. I can feel awful to a reasonable degree and remedy the situation, not just give up on the friendship.
Okay, leaving comment regarding questions I feel didn't have my answers, because that was asked. I really did try to use my imagination for these.
For intense job least likely to break you, I think this could benefit from "I have no way of knowing" kind of answer. Those who have never been employed, those who struggle in non-intense jobs, that kind of thing. (That question was the one that took me longest for that reason).
For a subculture gaining negative media attention, perhaps being the type not to affiliate oneself with a subculture to begin with? I have hobbies, I like some fashions, but I more just pick and choose what I like and don't really feel a sense of belonging to any community because of those things.
For the really big test approach, I struggled to answer because realistically, my approach would've combined the options: I would've relied on my existing knowledge to get a good grade, but do a quick refresher the night before to ensure a perfect or nearly perfect score.
For the first date/sharing info question, I'd just talk about whatever's relevant to where the conversation goes, as opposed to deliberately being open or secretive for a specific goal. I don't have any "secrets" to share per se anyway. So basically, I'd be open, but not for a purpose of vetting people.
For the "jerk makes a vulgar remark about what you're wearing," I struggled not only because none of the answers felt quite right, I also felt like there'd be too many variables that would affect how I handle the situation.
Lastly, for the "ambitious project that was exciting a month ago," this has happened to me so I know exactly how I'd handle it. I'd TELL myself I'm putting it on the backburner, but it would fizzle out, and I'd feel upset about the window passing and my own inability to do it.
Thank you for the suggestions! I'm gonna go through these one by one:
Intense job question: Having a "struggles in non-intense jobs" option would be very useful information, so I can put that in the next update. As far as "I have no way of knowing" goes, that is also incredibly valid, and I'll play around with it, but I worry that so many people would jump to that option that it would completely negate the question.
Subculture question: I think I can add this one, thank you!
Test question: I think I can add this one as well!
Date question: I think most people would probably share things as they come up, and not just blurt out secrets without prompting, so I can reframe the question to make it more clear that we're talking about when something comes up, how much do you share.
Vulgar remark question: I don't think I can help you on this one , as I don't think there's any way to make this more specific without making it exclusionary to a lot of people. This one might just need a total redo...
Ambitious project question: This an INCREDBILY relatable answer you've given, and I will 100% put that in.
Thank YOU for reading it and responding! All of these replies are understandable, even the ones where my suggestions aren't feasible. This is a great quiz! I had attempted to share my results, but posting a comment with an image gave me an error message :'( I know that's not your fault though! Just something in the website.
First off, thank you so much! I do put a lot of effort into this, and I like to think it gets better with every update, so I'm genuinely glad you're coming back to see it :)
Also thank you for sharing your results, even though you're not so into the Bug-type. Personally, I think Bug-type Pokemon are really cool, but hey - maybe next time will be different!
Hello great quiz! I was curious how I was getting "Fast" despite having Speed be my lowest stat. I thought that was an interesting discrepancy. I also see that you take suggestions so I wanted to provide some for you, since some I didn't have an answer that felt great, though I understand you might not be able to take all of them.
Question 2: You find a box marked “free on the side of the road, full of various pieces of wood, metal, and plastic. Which best describes your most likely reaction?
Proposed Answer: I’d check to see if there is anything that is unique that might look cool and would put on display at my place. I love collecting weird things!
Question 16: You’ve just woken up, and it’s a work or school day. What are you most likely to do for yourself within the first hour of being awake?
Proposed Answer: Hit snooze! Maybe hit snooze again! Just give me more sleep, I’m so comfy!
Question 28: You’re on a first date with someone you met on a dating app, with no friends in common. What’s your most likely approach to sharing things about yourself? Proposed Answer: I would see if we shared any similar interests and share why they were important to me or how they shape who I am!
Question 29: You feel it’s time for a change, and you’re reorganizing everything in your bedroom, including the furniture. What aspect of your life is this new layout most likely to support. Proposed Answer: A sense of aesthetic and a taste for something new! (clearing stagnant energy?)
Question 33: If your neighbors were asked about what you’re like, what sort of consensus would they most likely have?
Proposed Answer: Some might say I seem like a nice person, but no one really knows me.
I also was curious how the abilities were chosen/sorted through. Anyway great work and thank you for your time and energy <3
What a lovely comment, both in terms of content and format! (I'm a sucker for cleanly-written paragraphs and well-placed italics.)
To answer your first question, I've actually seen this Fast/Speed discrepency several times before, but I think your results have set a new record for incongruity - congratulations! The way this happens is that the attributes ("Fast", "Coolheaded", etc) are calculated first - they're what the answers directly affect, and they're the basis for almost* all of the other results. The presence or absence of certain attributes are used to calculate the stats, and "Fast" is certainly the most heavily-weighted attribute when calculating Speed, but it's not the only one.
*there's a few specific answers you can choose that will have a more direct impact on some of the Abilities, but they're rare.
In the case of your particular Fast/Speed mismatch, the lower Speed may be the result of lower scores in attributes like "Reckless", "Shedding", or "Routine-Based", or higher scores on stuff like "Whimsical" - there's more factors, but looking at the rest your results and the answers you suggested, those would be my most likely culprits.
Alternatively, since the stats are calculated as a percentage and always add up to a stat total of 450, it could also be that the attributes feeding into the other stats were just really strong.
As for your other question about how Abilities are chosen, the Abilities are the most direct result of the attributes - almost 1-to-1. So for instance, everyone who gets the 'Fast' attribute will get an Ability directly tied to that. In your case, you got "Swift Swim" because of your heavier Water-typing, but other possibilities could have been "Speed Boost", "Sand Rush", "Slush Rush", or "Quick Feet".
This was a total accident, but I do love that some of the Abilities can potentially explain the discrepencies between the attributes and stats, as you observed. So for instance, if I'm envisioning the Pokemon that matches the description in your results, I'm imagining something that's usually slow, but becomes lightning fast when it's raining.
I hope that answers your questions, and if not, let me know - every time I explain myself, I grow more powerful :)
And speaking of answers, thank you for the suggestions! Here's what I can do with those:
Q2: Funnily enough, I just added the largest-yet answer update (literally a few hours after you posted - rough timing!) but I think one of the new answers might cover you on this one. It's the one that goes "I maybe take a few things that look interesting, just because I like collecting cool things." It's lacking the "display" part, but would that have spoken to you as a viable answer?
Q16: I absolutely love this answer, and I love the way you wrote it! It's totally going in the next answer update, and I think I have the space to put it in your exact language.
Q28: I think this one's valid, but I might need to work it a little bit to make sure that it plays nice with the other answers and doesn't overshadow them or break the question.
Q29: Here's another one that sort of got addressed in yesterday's update, where I added "I'd organize based more on aesthetics than any functionality," except that I think yours actually has a new wrinkle with clearing stagnant energy - that's so evocative and feels different, and I think I'll probably add that one too!
Q33: And one more now-addressed answer, but this feels kind of different. The new one is "They'd all have experienced the same sanitized version of my personality," which feels like the same concept, but it feels like it has a different tone... would that answer speak to you, and if not, what would you say is missing?
I hope that response wasn't too long! I get very excited about these things. Thank you again for the suggestions, for the kind words, and for sharing your results - it always makes me happy to see what people get :)
This was immensely helpful! I've been sharing this with a bunch of friends and seeing their different results have been interesting. Also seeing a trend with the people I keep around and the results they have been receiving (A lot of Normal/Fairy type results). I could tell in this particular test that the Pokédex entry and the Abilities really tied together to portray this flavorful description of a Pokémon, and so I have greatly enjoyed imagining that in consort with the typing results.
Stats are interesting here. I see that typing bonuses have been put on the wayside, but I think that was a very cool idea!! I suppose my answers is showing that I hold a bit of balance across the board, and that is what it's prioritizing. Part of me wants to feel that unique blend of hyper differentiation and nuance, but that's more of a me thing then a stats thing. I was wondering if there was a way to break the limit so to speak? The way I understood you was that I received Fast, because I hit certain markers, but not enough additional speed markers to outweigh the percentages in the other categories. However, what if my results were so high in categories that it went over the 450 allotment? To account for the weighted strength of my answers. Perhaps I like long stat bars too and am sad that I did not receive one. So this paragraph was more of a ramble of ideas let's go, than constructive. I suppose incorporating stat bonuses from strong Pokémon type results could aid this distinction for those that have a strong showing of a type since it's a way to achieve the bonus without messing with your algorithm.
It seems all my answers are up for consideration for being added to the future, except Q33, so I'll respond to that (I did see the change in Q2 and was like that's perfect for me!). Q33 is really interesting. I think what's missing for me is that "sanitized" implies like a polite, mask that you put on for strangers. I think where it differs for me, is that I think I'm a warm/nice person in general and if you interact with me that's your first impression of me. However, I do not necessarily share myself or develop relationships with neighbors. So I could see them saying that oh this person is nice, but I can't tell you anything else about them. Basically warm introvert energy, versus the outgoing response that shows connectivity and bonds, where one of your neighbors really knows you or the "sanitized" version that implies you are withholding aspects of yourself to keep the peace. If one of my neighbors really knew me, I'd assume a friend had moved into the neighborhood and I'd differentiate them from other neighbors that I have a distant but warm and pleasant relationship with. Simultaneously if I felt close to a neighbor, I'd probably stop referring to them as a neighbor and calling them my friend.
While I'm here I'd like to echo the support on marshawk's take on the big test question. I was going to originally suggest something similar, but decided against it. I thought maybe the 2nd answer was close enough, but historically that combination of faith in my own knowledge/light brushing up also meant that I thought I would do well/ace the test versus just a passing grade. Which I think speaks to confidence and faith in your mental capabilities.
It seems like we might both like long, thorough replies. So I just will again thank you for your time and generosity for hearing me out. <3
First off, thank you for sharing this with your friends, and for your kind words about the results, I'm so happy that you find them flavorful! I actually really like that metaphor/language, I'm gonna just marinate in that for a bit :)
I think I found a bit of a happy middleground for the stats, where they're still solely the results of the various attributes, but the attributes used have become a lot more focused, so stuff like 'Fast' became even more closely tied with the speed stat. With a more narrow focus, I think there's a lot more potential for more extreme-looking results, but without sacrificing what the stats actually mean.
So... heads up, the next several paragraphs were written when I was misunderstanding the meaning of "what if my results were so high in categories that it went over the 450 allotment?" - my reading brain is a little off today, and I originally read that as a "what would happen then?" type of question, but after writing the full response to that, I'm only now realizing that you already understood this and were offering a suggestion for how things could be calculated. (I left my overexplanation in anyway, because there is technically some new info in there - might be interesting, feel free to take it or leave it!)
To the suggestion though, I would say that I want to avoid deliberately allowing a stat total of greater than 450, to avoid giving someone objectively "better" stats than someone else. (Although as you'll see, it can still techically happen....)
Regardless, this project is constantly evolving (no pun intended!) so getting feedback like this is always valuable, even if I can't implement it at the moment!
OVEREXPLANATION START ---
No matter how strong one stat is, your results would still never go over 450, at least not because of one stat being particularly strong. So, the attributes feeding into stats (Fast, Coolheaded, etc) are averaged, and then that average is graded* on a scale of 1 to 10. So let's say those gradings were:
HP: 1, Atk: 1, Def: 1, S-Atk: 1, S-Def: 1, and Speed: 10 (this is absurdly unlikely, maybe even impossible, and as extreme as it can get!)
The total of those would 15, and so the Speed stat of 10 would be calculated as a percentange of 450, like so:
(10/15)*450 = 300
and then each of the other stats would be:
(1/15)*450 = 30
So then we'd get 300+30+30+30+30+30 = 450
*this grading is not just 1-to-1, and is specifically set up to draw a greater distinction between more "average" results - so for instance, the gap in between grades 5 and 6 is very small, the gap between 6 and 7 is a little bigger, the gap between 7 and 8 is even bigger, etc. The purpose of this is to make more average results a more dynamic, while reserving more extreme grades for exceptionally extreme results.
The only way you could get a bigger or smaller stat total is through rounding, since all stats are rounded to the nearest 5. I have tried doing it without rounding, and this might be a matter of personal taste, but something about it just makes everything look more confusing/messy/unsatisfying.
So like... if the stats were 73, 73, 73, 73, 73, 85, all those 73s would get rounded up to 75, so you'd get a total 460. I figure this 440-460 range isn't a huge difference, but I just don't want to cause it on purpose.
OVEREXPLANATION END ---
On to answer stuff!
Q33: "Warm introvert energy" REALLY speaks to me! I'm totally with you here, and that question definitely has space for another answer, so I'll put something a little more nuanced in the next answer update! :)
Q25: (The test question) Totally hearing you and marshawk on this one, and that's gonna go in the next update as well!
Thank you too for taking the time to write such thoughtful comments, it's a joy to respond to stuff like this :)
I just wanted to take the time to say thank you! I always enjoy a nerding out or over explanation. Looking forward to the next update. Hope all is well as the year ends. <3
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked the test, and that you liked your results, and that being a Lapras does not prevent you from using a human computer :)
LOVED this little quiz. It was so fun! ♥ Got a handful of suggestions for specific questions though that I found lacking or like I couldn't find an answer for, personally. Thank you for making this cute little and very in depth quiz!
Quesiton 3 didn't really have any options that fit for me, personally. The thing that would /most/ make me want to go to a place my friend invited me to is simply the fact they invited me/I like hanging with my friends lol. I think it's an easier question, for me, to answer of what would make me not want to go.
Question 7 didn't have anything I'd pick either. I think I'd pick something about being able to maintain relationships (platonic and/or romantic), point to good hygiene, good immune system/lack of doctor visits or something in one of those veins.
Question 17: could add options for self help about interpersonal relationships (whether it's marriage books or how to maintain friendship type books.)
Normally when folks make suggestions, I go through them one-by-one and say what I can do and what I can't, but in this case, there's no need to - these are all uncomplicatedly great/original answers you've given me, and I'll add them in the next update :)
EDIT: I'm adding the latest round of answers now and I just realized that I might not have space for your response for Question 3, BUT after I do this round of questions, I'm going to start work on a new modular question system, so if I can't get it in now, I'll get it in there for sure.
I'm sorry that happened for you, it is definitely not intentional!
Outside of this one specific answer error that was resolved months ago, I haven't heard of this happening - may I ask what browser/device you're using? I know that this test can be a janky on phones and that Firefox apparently has some graphic issues with it (both of which I need to sort out) but this is a new one for me.
I feel like there's a lack of options for when you don't do something or kind of shut down because you're simply too timid/discouraged to keep going. I know there were a lot of questions that if they had answers like that I would have picked that option. Overall, I think it was a great test, and the results were fitting. Apparently I'm either Fairy or Fairy/Water and judging from the descriptions you wrote, those were good matches.
Second, I totally hear you about the shut down options, and I can definitely add some in. I'll re-check all the questions for this, but just in case my imagination is lacking, do you remember any questions that stood out as being particularly needy on this front?
Hmmmm...the escape room one doesn't quite feel like it fits me entirely. I would personally be excited--I love solving puzzles, and while I'd be disappointed if I don't solve much, I still wanna help others as best as I can! Heck, I'd be fine doing one solo!
It's crazy how often folks suggest answers that I myself would pick, but somehow didn't think to include! Needless to say, this is a great response, and it's totally going in the next answer update :)
so im kinda confused, why do i have three choices of results? like i want an explanation of what the numbers mean, like can i mix and match? do i just pick ones i like the most? itd probably be good to have some explanation somewhere in the main menu, i did read through stuff but i didn't find anything that explained it, and results because ye
These are all great questions! I am currently working on adding a section that answers all of them, but I can do a short version here:
The reason you have three choices of results is because I feel like getting a single result from a personality test is boring and restrictive. I like having the option to dig a little deeper and make my own conclusions about myself, especially since every personality test -- including this one -- will inherently have flaws and blind spots.
Plus, people have pre-existing connections with specific pokemon types, so I wanted to provide more opportunities for users to see something that they already connected with. Conversely, if they get a result they don't like, I wanted to leave space to identify with something other than a type they already hated.
So on that note, you can ABSOLUTELY mix and match, and in fact, I think it's a great idea! Originally, I didn't even have the numbers visible, because I just wanted folks to decide for themselves based on their top 3 most likely results, but then folks wanted to see their numbers, so I put 'em in.
The numbers themselves indicate the likelihood that you're a specific type. There's a lot of attributes (46, specifically) that feed into the different type calculations, so between all those factors, it's normal for the numbers to not appear conclusive.
But that's also just pokemon in general. Like, a Mankey doesn't match up with all the most common traits of Fighting monotypes, but it's still a Fighting monotype - even outliers need a home!
Bonus Explanation: as a little side-thing, the Pokedex color changes based on the strongest association across all mono/primary/secondary types (e.g. Fairy here) and the stat bar color changes based on the second-strongest association* (e.g. Flying here). It was originally just for aesthetic reasons, so that I didn't have to design around the clashing-prone Pokedex colors, but it could also provide a little structure to mixing-and-matching, if someone wanted something a little more solid.
*this doesn't happen if your strongest association is significantly stronger than the runner-up, in which case the bars will be that strongest color as well
I guess this didn't end up being the "short version", but I hope this helps explain things! If not, let me know, that would certainly be good information to have as I'm writing up the proper explanation. (Or I might just copy+paste this, tbh)
Thank you for the great questions and also for sharing your results :)

i like this quiz a lot!! some of the options on these questions are so wild, lmao; i especially love the "get in a relationship with them for at least 3 months" one for #36 !! i also appreciate the representation with "i would openly share my darker secrets. if they can't handle it, that just saves us time" on #28 and "i would become a full-throated 24/7 champion of my maligned subculture" on #24 because those are both exactly how i operate XD
i know you said you wanted feedback for any questions where we don't feel like there was an answer that encapsulates us, so here are my thoughts:
This is a great quiz :D
I'm a little salty that my favourite type wasn't in my end result, but it was fun overall :)
Might share it with some friends for them to do it too eheh
Although for question 29 I'd have answered something along the lines of "To uncover lost items deep within drawers that I haven't used in a while" :P
Thats what I did with my old Pokémon card collection xD
And also for question 31 I would have answered with "I exercise for fun" cuz I'm the kind of psychopath that enjoys running :3
33 "I'm just a chill guy"..... (this is genuinely the way people describe me 😭)This is excellent!
Let's do it ❤️
im all normal :( also all my abilities revolve around me being fat lol I love this test so much
Lovely bit of fun!
If anything though, I had more problems with questions where more than one answer is equally as correct (for example—on the buffet, I am absolutely as gluttonous as I am picky). Given the methodology, could this maybe work just as well allowing multiple answers to a question?
Um. Apologies for the essay, it got a bit out of hand <XD And great work :}
Hey hey, first off, I'm glad you had fun with this!
I got ice as a monotype, ice for my 1st type and steel as my 2nd O_O
Great quiz, I absolutely love it!
Little typo on question 24, "relationsip" :)
For question 21, where's the "I'm the therapy friend, I've expected this at this point" option 💔💔💔
This was so much fun omg!! I love that you can check what the answers for everything else are.
Question 34:
Play an overly violent video game to just enjoy the carnage and take our mind off what made you angry.
Question 14:
Answer choice: Jolly, it's time to prank my friends
(or something along the lines of teasingly annoying the friends)
What a fun response! Thank you for the suggestion, and I'll for sure put that in the next answer update :)
Question 53: Best qualities in a job hunt.
I can see how that's just making things more confusing, so I'll change it, thank you for the suggestion!
question 42: i'd like if Awful was less extreme
Agree with this. Question 42's answers are weirdly unempathetic. I can feel awful to a reasonable degree and remedy the situation, not just give up on the friendship.
Gotcha, I can add another answer to allow for more nuance - thank you for the suggestion!
Question 23: does 'logger' mean 'lumberjack'? please change because it's slightly unclear
Can do!
Thank you again :)
Thank YOU for reading it and responding! All of these replies are understandable, even the ones where my suggestions aren't feasible. This is a great quiz! I had attempted to share my results, but posting a comment with an image gave me an error message :'( I know that's not your fault though! Just something in the website.
Aw bummer! Itch can be weird sometimes I guess :(
I'm glad you liked the quiz though!
In Order, from biggest to smallest
Ice, Normal & Fighting, Ground, Dragon, that works
A message to convey? : )
As much as I like the description, as much as the insect type is really not a type that interests me.
Otherwise good job, I try to redo the test with each important update, and I can see your involvement. So congratulations :)
Thank you again :)
It's very accurate xD
I'm so glad you think so! :)
(also thank you for sharing your results! - I can't explain it, but it always warms my heart to see an absurdly long stat bar)
This was absolutely fantastic and my results were SPOT-ON. And as a Lapras myself, I was very happy to get Ice-type :3
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked the test, and that you liked your results, and that being a Lapras does not prevent you from using a human computer :)
im water tribe pokemon
Hell yeah :)
this was great , thanks for helping me discover my true pokemon typ
My pleasure, I'm glad you liked it :)
if you would like , when i upload the video , i could post it on the wall so you can see it?
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!
It’s skipping a lot of questions for me ~ like I answer 1 and my next question is 3, it skips nearly half the questions. Is that intentional?
First off, I'm glad you liked the test!
Second, I totally hear you about the shut down options, and I can definitely add some in. I'll re-check all the questions for this, but just in case my imagination is lacking, do you remember any questions that stood out as being particularly needy on this front?
I'm sorry, I don't remember any ones. I haven't touched itch in weeks.
I guess I'm a dragon slayer.
Someone's gotta be! Thanks for sharing your results :)
Me: I wonder what types it'll say for me.

Quiz: FIRE
I love how much this screen looks like a warning (literally a red flag!) but then all the details are really sweet.
Thank you for sharing your results!
so im kinda confused, why do i have three choices of results? like i want an explanation of what the numbers mean, like can i mix and match? do i just pick ones i like the most? itd probably be good to have some explanation somewhere in the main menu, i did read through stuff but i didn't find anything that explained it, and results because ye
Thank you for the great questions and also for sharing your results :)
thanks for the explanation, and def would add an explanation along these lines to the game somewhere
